Scenario
A vehicle technician needs to explain the layout and operation of a transmission system to
a new apprentice.

Assessment Method
A written task supported by relevant drawings/ sketches.


You must explain the transmission systems (manual and automatic).
Explain drive or power path
Explain what happens in an engine and how the power is transferred to wheels.
Explain how the gear box effects torque.
What does the clutch does and different types?
Explain drive shaft and prop shaft.
Front wheel, rear wheel and four wheel drive.
You will also need to mention the other components in your investigation booklet from Page 1- 11.


To extend your work further to reach M1 you must compare two different types of transmission systems (manual and automatic).

To be successful you will produce a written booklet explaining the Transmission System clearly. You will have labelled diagrams or photographs from you investigation work you have carried out on the car during lessons (you should refer back to your work book for this assignment).
So that your written report is easy to read and understand you should have headings and important information could be highlighted by bullet pointing all the key points.
